Locs in School

By Caribzone.com

EDUCATE, CELEBRATE. Last week, a group of Jamaicans in New York City took to the streets to protest a recent court ruling, barring a 7 year-old female student from attending school with her dreadlocks hairstyle.

Photo/Journalist Leonard McKenzie was there to capture the news in pics, showing Ras Alric Lee Denham addressing the protesters outside the Jamaican Consulate, at 767 Third Avenue, Manhattan.

At last check, the student will be allowed to attend school in St. Catherine, with Prime Minister Andrew Holness, himself a former Minister of Education, saying in a statement on the matter that no student will be denied an education because of race, religion or otherwise.
