NO PECO CULTUTREFEST THIS SUMMER
PHILADELPHIA, PA. A decision has been made to not have the PECO
Multicultural Series this year, due to the pandemic and the need for social (crowd)
distancing.
Well-placed sources in
the city said last year’s event was successful, in large measure due to the work
of the committee members and volunteers and as such, they will treat this as a
year-off to rest up for next year.
“This was not an easy
decision but one that we believe is the most responsible as we all come
together to respond to the current COVID-19 crisis and its far-reaching impacts,”
offered M. Kofi Smith, Events Operations Manager at the Delaware River
Waterfront Corporation (DRWC).
It is our hope to keep Waterfront parks open and accessible this Summer to the degree in which we are permitted by local and state guidelines. Planning and implementing large gatherings, however, are not feasible at the time.
“We acknowledge and appreciate the contributions that each festival brings towards furthering a greater understanding and appreciation of world cultures”.

According to Smith, DRWC
will continue to find new opportunities to further these goals with future
programming, perhaps with the possibility of hosting "Heritage Days"
once it is feasible to do so.

The pandemic hijacked the planet and with this many changes and new plans will be implemented. With that in mind I would like to ask Mr Koffe what exactly is Herritage Day, will the many ethnic community in Philadelphia be the planners of this "Herritage Day".
ReplyDeleteWhat I'm getting at is the PECO Multicural Series which takes place on the Great Plaza at Penn's Landing showcases the vibrance of the many cultures in the Philadelphia region. For the pass thirty three years Caribbean Festival is one of them. So again what will this "Heritage Day" be. Remember Philadelphia had the African American Festival, Italian American Festival Polish American Festival, Porto Rican Festival, Hispanic Festival, African Festival, Indian Festival, the list goes on. Please do not tell me that there will be a Herritage Day set aside where the above mention ethnicities is invited to visit the Great Plaza and spend a day spending their hard earned money supporting those few privilege establishments along the entire Penn Landing Waterfront... oops Minority businesses abscent.
I smell a rat, so again I ask "Herritage Day" Mr Koffe who will be the benefactors?
